Review by J. Douglas : Decent tiller

This was received in the Autumn, early October, so it has not been used much yet. It was open, assembled, started and test ran. Delivery: The delivery was listed as Amazon Prime without any further qualification when ordered but it is actually delivered by a freight company who calls to setup a delivery appointment. Someone must be present to accept the delivery but they came with a lift truck and put the unit into our garage on the pallet. When they called they asked if someone would be there to help unload the truck and when I said no (only my wife home) they said they would bring a lift truck which they did without problem. Total time to receive was about 7 days. Packing, unpacking, assembly: The unit was on a full size pallet and wrapped with heavy corrugated box. The unit would have been hard to unload from a truck even with 2 people since the pallet is bulky and heavy but once the tiller is unpacked it is easy for 2 people to lift. There are basically just 2 parts - the machine and the handle. Attaching the handle only took a few minutes then a few minutes more to attach the forward and reverse cables. Cutting the heavy straps holding it down to the pallet was another minute or 2. Total 10 minutes (maybe 20 minutes since I slowly pondered the instructions but did not have to be 20). The instructions asked to to set the wheels to freely rotate so you could roll the unit off the pallet. The wheels were actually already set this way. It was a little awkward to get the wheels out of the pallet but still just 1 minute.Startup: Add the oil that was supplied with the unit (capacity even matched the container of oil sent). Fill with gas. No primer button found (some units must have it since the instructions showed some with and some without). Set to full choke and full speed and it started on the first pull which was surprising for a new and just fueled machine. Test Use: At first attempt the unit moved forward very fast. Of course the wheels were still in the free-wheeling position for pushing the machine while off. The tines are counter-rotating so they work against the movement of the wheels. With the wheel drive off it moves quickly and, of course, does not work. To set the wheels to drive you need to pull a pin on each wheel and slide the wheel out then reset the pin to lock the wheel to the axle. It would be WAY easier if there were a lever to engage the wheel drive but maybe all of tillers in this size category work like this (no idea) with the pin holding the wheel to the axle. In any case, it only takes a minute to switch it. After engaging the wheels the machine again started on the first pull. It was set to medium depth and very quickly and easily tilled about 2 12 foot test strips. The ground was somewhat soft but full of grass and weeds. No need to till this until Spring so that was the end of the test and it work as well as could be hoped. I could have very rapidly completed my whole area and I think could easily till in sod if needed. Summary: Everything I expected so far. Looking forward to Spring.
